Submission Guidelines

Feign accepts fiction only, up to 6000 words long. Beginning in 2026, Feign is pleased to announce payment of $50 per story through PayPal, delivered on publication.

Please have your work formatted with double spacing and in a 12pt font, Times New Roman preferred.

Cover letters are welcome but are not mandatory. If you choose to provide a cover letter, we suggest that you copy and paste into the form. Hitting the return key may push the form prematurely. You can always reach out to feignlit@gmail.com with any issues about your submission, using the subject line “Submission Update”.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted but do let us know immediately if the work you submitted to us is accepted elsewhere. Email feignlit@gmail.com with the subject line, “Withdraw” to notify us.

Response times will vary between 3-6 months at this time, in October of 2026. Life events and an influx of submissions (most genuine, some nefarious) have slowed our editors, but we appreciate your patience as we take the time and care to review your submissions. After 14 weeks, please don’t hesitate to inquire about the status of your submission, by emailing feignlit@gmail.com with the subject line, “Status Update”.

A note on our policy for artificial intelligence:

While Feign seeks risky fiction that subverts expectations whether through form or content, we expect writers to submit original work that is unaided by artificial intelligence. We also would like it to be known that all work is read solely by the editors and not screened with the aid of artificial intelligence to identify other's use of artificial intelligence. We ask that you respect our time, policies, and guidelines by trusting your writerly instincts and work to hone your craft through your unique human spirit and way of seeing the world. We ask that you bet on your humanness, and you may just win the jackpot.
